Introducing MC Dracula

funk master Dracula
hyper spectacular
movie-film bloodsucker
vagabond anti-garlic trucker
I aint one to be messed around
just cos you can’t bury me underground
cos i’m eternal
and have fangs
hangin around in gangs
thirsting for colgate tooth paste
I’m not one to waste
cos i’m bio green
like the hulk
I rap in bulk
its the vampire way
and I’m here to stay
who rah
older than the oldest star
I make the Bulrog look like a teddy bear
just cos I got an evil stare
aint no thing fazes me
cos I can turn into a bat
and then a man with a bowler hat
I play chess with death
and win
every time without fail
like a golgamoth killer whale
Rabbid sea mariner submersible urchin
and it don’t need to rhyme
it don’t need to sync
or emancipate
just investigate my name
on wikipedia
facebook, myspace, twitter but don’t get bitter
at my popularity
I’m only painting clarity
of a relevant vampire
on the wings of desire
owning the night
borne to fright

Q Tip -Solo stuff - Kamaal The Abstract - 'Feelin it'

Dead Man's Bones - My body's a Zombie for you - the album's pretty good

CHECK THIS OUT; IT WAS ON THE WIKIPEDIA PAGE FOR 'DEL THA FUNKY HOMOSAPIEN'....

Due to touring, mundane activities, and frequent psychedelic drug use, it would be another five years before the release of his third album. About a month before the release of his third album Future Development Del received a letter from his label, Elektra, stating that his contract had been terminated.[2]

Friday Morning Hymnal EP

Now this, I love.
I sadly can't say anything at all about these guys.

How to Dress Well & cokc dokc - Ready for The World

When Doves Cry

The Twighlight Singers - When Doves Cry (Prince Cover)

and because you might like this zeitgeist films

50

First play this:

Then at around 38 seconds, press play on this:
Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions (Joker Remix)
[headphones required]

I know you're shaking your head and its been ten seconds. Your displeasure is palpable. And worse your indifference. But that's OK. It does not have soul. Or sincerity. It does have bass though. And wobble.

..Maybe rumbles rival fragility; replace vulnerability and with an audible equivalent of dutch courage. The gobby 21st century edition of Wall of Sound. Hurrah noise.

See this for more details:

Major Lazer - Keep it Goin' Louder (Diplo Remix)

Scott Walker. Just watched a Doc about him the guy was a music pioneer and influence on such luminaries as Bowie, Eno, Albarn, Radiohead, Johnny Marr, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sting, Jarvis Cocker the list could continue. I strongly recommend the Doc called Scott Walker: 30th Century Man.

Went to see these guys a few years ago...let the intro break in.....

Just saw this. It felt a little uneven but was very good and Paul Giamatti was brilliant.

Monday, 1 February 2010

Again not a great vid but another Durutti Column piece that I like. I have downloaded the drop box thingy so....

This guy is a highly respected guitarist called Vini Reilly. He came up during the Madchester stuff.

Deadmau5 - pjanoo (eric prydz tribute cover)

My new kicks...I had to show them to someone.

And the acoustic version.....

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

I don't know enough about Eno's music and his influence upon it, but I feel as though I should.

I rented Daydream Nation from the library having had so many people sight them as major influences and this is the opening track to the album.

In a similar vein; not much of a monkeys fan. This was a demo- one of their earliest tracks and probably my favourite. Once I get savvy with the music download thingy I will stop using poor quality vids. Sorry.

A guilty pleasure. This was before they became the cult monster that they did. Totally removed from the melodic and subtle sound that the Roses are renowned for. I know you're not really a believer but I couldn't resist...

These guys are buddies with Broken Social Scene; it was a fairly big song in the summer

And Another....It now feels a bit dated to watch, it came out awhile back, but this was mistaken by many to be a trailer for a film by Michael Mann so they had to pull it from Television. In fact it's 'only' advertising Mercedes.

I like the poem, the music, and the cinematography.

New Joy Orbison

And you can listen to Joy Orbison's new Ep here

Ninja Tunes

You may well be au fait with Ninja Tunes, but if not they are label you might like to look into more of, being the home of , amongst others, Amon Tobin. A stable, with Big Dada, for the house-hold names in british electronic/hip-hop/chillout/down-beat/you-name-it-genre including Cinematic Orchestra, Roots Manuva, Cold Cut, Fink, Bonobo Dj Food, TTC here is a link to quite a recent showcase compilation.
New Laura Marling album out in march. This looks like the first single, shot in India I think on a recent tour out there:

Can't remember whether you feel as strongly about her or not as others I could mention. Joni parallels abound perhaps. Though there could be less complementary comparisons. This is a song of hers I like a lot, in that vein:

And this is a beautiful song by Charlotte Gainsbourg

New Portishead recorded for Amnesty International, 'Chase the Tear"

It's growing on me. Sounds like lots of other things but weirdly like not much else. And i like the gold bracelet the guy is wearing in the opening moments.

I know I'm walking a fine line but I couldn't resist....

Excerpt from 'Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee:

"So tractable, so peaceable, are these people," Columbus wrote to the King and Queen of Spain, "that I swear to your Majesties there is not in the world a better nation. They love their neighbors as themselves, and their discourse is ever sweet and gentle, and accompanied with a smile; and though it is true that they are naked, yet their manners are decorous and praiseworthy."

All this, of course, was taken as a sign of weakness, if not heathenism, and Columbus being a righteous European was convinced the people should be
"made to work, sow and do all that is necessary and to adopt our ways."

Banjo or Freakout/Mount Kimbie

Banjo or Freakout
. Who?? Just to show I am not prideful (or that I am lazy - discuss..) The Guardian do it quite well here

Banjo or Freakout - "Archangel"(Burial Cover)

Mount Kimbie, Hot Flush labelmate of Joy Orbison (of mainly this, but also this fame) and making equally soothing sounds.

Mount Kimbie - "Maybes"

Mount Kimbie - "Sketch on Glass"

Tone restored.

Two can play that game

Bent brother I know you,

Heavy set, unready to go.

Tomorrow no longer rests in your hands,

Old man says its not in your hands.

Aint no thing gonna change that.

Your eyes have lingered too long,

Weighty whispers will guide you,

The sun has no place here,

The hole’s been dug for thousands deep.

Aint no fire gonna burn no more.

What hills and skies know your name,

What hate has gnawed the soil and deep blue,

Old grey man says he’s had enough.

Says your tracks are walked.

Aint no redemption in your day.

What price to pay for wingless pride,

‘You shined so bright’, says the old man.

‘But you aint no cowboy angel anymore’,

Souls have been swallowed by your void,

Aint got no time left for the fallen.

Old mans fiery blue eyes stare straight, rocking.

Smells the Earth and breaths out slowly.

‘I loved you boy, but you forgot yourself’.

‘This aint no place for you’ .

Aint gonna be a day like this again.

The sun wiped from the sky, stars fallen.

Trumpets blow, north, south, east and west.

Lucuis, bent, wretched and foul, blackened by deceit.

No word borne from his rotting mouth.

Aint no horde gonna save him now.

if you can't compete, lower the tone.

night mate.

Mate just give up- just relax- just run away.

Stick 'em up

Just Relax

Just discovered this. It's from 2006.
